Many things have happened!

Well, it has been quite awhile since my last post. Many things have happen since then. I'm going to sum up the first few events with short to the point sentences an then go into more detail with some up to date stuff.

12/21/07 While I was sitting at my computer, Connor came in and tapped me on the shoulder and asked for crackers. Of course it was just the one word "crackers" but at least its communicating.

12/22/07 We went to my dads for Christmas and Connor outwitted his grandpa. No great defeat there. ha Sorry Dad! lol My father was teasing Connor by trying to take his movie box away and give Connor something else he wanted. Well, Connor wanted both items so after a few times he decided to bring the spongebob movie box over to me and hide it behind my back on the couch while he went back to my dad and took the other item he wanted. We were impressed!

12/23/07 Connor told my husband "No" to pizza. He definately knows how to answer "No" now if he doesn't want something, especially certain foods.

12/28/07 He finally told me his name without me having to go through the cycle of telling him all of our names first. I just said "Can you tell me your name?" and he did.

12/29/07 He ate a sandwich by himself. Usually we have to feed him like he is an infant.

3/4/08
So, We are up to date on his status. He has been eating more and more by himself within the last month. He actually uses a fork to pick up his normal meal of Mac & Cheese or Pizza.

Something new just within the last couple of weeks is he has become more agressive with everyone in the family. If we tell him "No", he will throw the first item in his sight. Have you seen those movies where someone will clear a table with the sweep of their arm? Well, he does that to if we are in the kitchen. We have to be very careful what we say to him or bowls of food or drinks go flying.

He also isn't sharing very well. If he has a toy and his siblings or other cildren try to play then he pushes them away or hits them very hard. He threw a chair during Sunday school just last week because the teacher wouldn't give him a glass vase he saw above on a cabinet.

I just purchased the www.teach2talk.com dvd series so I'm hoping that will help him in everyday living. He loves music and television so I think it will be very helpful for all of us.

I'm going to try and keep up with my post for the remainder of the year.

Until next time.

No, I'll have the poptarts!

Actual date 12/1/2007

This evening my older son Brady and daughter were eatig BBQ chips with cheese in the living room. As my older son knows and do I, Connor wouldn't want any BBQ chips with cream cheese but I always like to ask and communicate with him. Needless to say he turned them down by saying "NO" but kept turning the light on in the adjacent room which is my candle business office. First off he has never answered me with words but "No" came out of that mouth tonight. He usually just pushes my hand away or makes a face. Yes, we are communicating now!

After turning the lights on several times after I had Brady turn them off, I decided to get up myself. He watched and went to the kitchen cabinet where he opened up the door and pulled out the poptarts. They aren't just a breakfast food with Connor. He loves them anytime and any flavor.

I'm Hungry!

Actual Date-November 11, 2007

I had been gone all day tending to a show with my candle business, my husband Chad said Connor wouldn't eat his noodles but he did eat his chicken. I'm thinking he meant from lunch time because when I was changing his diaper at 7:30pm he said: "I'm hungry". Well, we went to the kitchen and he ate 4 peanut butter crackers. He is a very picky eater so the fact that he even let me know that he was hungry was real progress.

The child usually only eats the following foods: pizza, chicken nuggets, macaroni & cheese, cheese nips, cookies, french fries-shoe string only, m&m's, skittles, pb crackers, PBJ sandwich, ravioli and McDonalds! Notice, no vegetables are mentioned. I have been able to trick him with a smoothie to get the fruits like strawberries and bananas into his diet but the smoothies didn't work with vegetables. ha He is to smart for me too.

I love you too!

Actual Date- October 15, 2007

What an evening! Tonight Connor came to me while I was sitting at my computer. I turned to acknowledge him and gave him a big hug and kiss. While I was hugging him, he said: "I love You" I said: "I love you too". I couldn't believe it, he understood affection or at least the fact that when someone hugs and kisses then they love you. It brought tears to my eyes but really more excitement because I know he is very smart and will hopefully lead a normal life with this early intervention. Such a Sweet Boy!

Ask Me a Question?

Actual Date-October 6th, 2007

These were the first words that I heard come from Connor's mouth that made me know he was inside there somewhere. He had been in school about 7 weeks with speech therapy for 30 minutes twice a week. He has shown a vast improvement in his vocabulary and what seems to be incidents of understanding. He came home from school and asked? "Ask me a Question?" He said this several times, and I'm assuming his therapist is asking him to say this to her. He seems to love school and I know he is going to do well! I'm so happy I'm able to stay home with my children and watch their progress.
